TREK RELIEF Adventure/Service Organization Celebrates 10th Anniversary in Los Angeles

Join us on Saturday, May 16 at 5 pm: Celebrate @ “Art And Space LA”

For press inquiries, or to interview TR founder Candice Young, contact Dr. Rob Williams at rob@trekrelief.org

After working on disaster relief projects in post-earthquake Nepal, Los Angeles native Candice Young founded Trek Relief following a chance encounter in 2016 with Vermont Professor of Entrepreneurship Dr. Rob Williams in Nepal’s high Himalayas. The two trekkers—complete strangers at the time—met while trekking around Mount Manaslu, and spent a week collaborating on what began as a personal fundraising effort for an earthquake-impacted Himalayan valley. That collaboration ultimately evolved into the vision, mission, and organizational structure of a “travel with purpose” nonprofit connecting adventure travelers with communities recovering from disaster, while empowering individuals to step into global leadership by designing their own itineraries to raise funds for community-led projects.

Ten years later, Trek Relief has grown into an international nonprofit overseeing community-led projects in Nepal, Mongolia, Patagonia, and Peru. To date, the organization has raised $785,776, facilitated 30 trek trips, and welcomed 192 trekkers who have chosen to travel with intention—supporting local communities while engaging deeply with place, culture, and impact. “Traveling with purpose through Trek Relief has transformed my life,” reflects co-founder Dr. Rob Williams. “Candice, Chief Operations Officer Sarah Nguyen, our Board of Directors, and dozens of Trek Relief volunteers will be on hand in LA to celebrate what a committed community can accomplish together.”

The celebration will take place from 5:00–10:00 PM at Art and Space LA (5555 Washington Blvd), honoring a decade of impact made possible by intentional travel and collective action. To embody Trek Relief’s spirit and the community it attracts, the evening will feature DJs, live performances, delicious food, and fire dancing in honor of the people and partnerships that have shaped the organization’s journey.

“Trek Relief was founded as a nonprofit because I believe every individual has the power to make a difference in the world,” says Founder and Executive Director Candice Young. “Our mission is to support people who are ready to turn their intentions and passions into action and create the change they want to see.”

As Trek Relief looks ahead to its next chapter, the organization invites supporters, travelers, and partners to join in celebrating 10 years of what community-driven, purpose-led travel can achieve. Those inspired to take part are encouraged to consider joining an upcoming Trek Relief journey this year or beyond—and become part of the next decade of leadership and impact.
